I Promise to "Do My Best"

1954 - Cub Scout, originally uploaded by clotho98.

This year the Boy Scouts are celebrating 100 years of meetings, camp outs, pinewood derbys, and den mothers!

This year Junior is joining up!

This year I really really wish Dad took a photo of me sometime when I was wearing my own scout uniform!

How many of you were in the Boy or Girl scouts? Brownies? Awanas?

Cub Scout illustration published in the October 1954 issue of Family Circle magazine.

I tried doing Brownies, but those darn little gurls were just so durn mean!!

Brother made it to Eagle Scout, was Scout camp counselor for years, did Order of the Arrow and all that good stuff lol...

How far did you make it? And c'mon, how many merit badges did you earn? =D

Congrats to Jr., I sure hope he doesn't get the mean gurl-types I did =O

I did it for one year in Webelos... got all but 1 or 2 achievements because our den dad didn't take us camping & swimming (And that was the real reason I joined to start with! LoL)

I was a Tweenie, then a Brownie, then a Girl Guide (might be different in Oz). I gave it up in Year 8 I think, when they wanted me to join the Girl Rangers (but really - that so wasn't cool in Year 8!)

I loved it - as I'm a pretty crafty and outdoorsy kinda gal. I still have my sash and a little blue bag covered in my badges.

I hope Junior has a swell time in the Boy Scouts!

I was in cub scouts, and I am now proud to say after 7 years of hard work I am an Eagle Scout! I host a Camp out and Drive-In movie night for my moms local boyscout troop each year at the Casablanca!

Same as Ruby Rach I girl guide which I guess is the same as your girl scouts. Even went to International camp, sadly it was in the UK that year so I missed out on travelling!

Wow! Sounds like everyone put in a lot of commitment into scouts!

I'm hoping Junior will stick with it longer than I chose, and that it'll be a much more rewarding experience. I was the outdoorsy one in the family too, never got nearly enough of it! I was always recreating Native American crafts, built shelters and such. Wouldn't you know that of course my Dad hated camping!

Ya know.... I spent a lot of time recreating authentic Native American crafts too. For real lol... Worked in deer hide, beads, horse hair, you name it. Made quite a few things. =)

That post title brought back memories. I was a brownie and I can still remember the oath:
I promise that I will do my best, to do my duty to God, to serve the Queen, to help other people, and to keep the Brownie Guide Law.

I'm guessing you guys didn't have to promise to serve the queen, so how did your oath go?
