3 Things from the Wish List

I don't want to seem greedy or materialistic, I'm happy for what I have... but everyone has personal tastes in furniture (especially lovers of the mid century design). My idea is more along the line of sharing examples of the design which I'm striving for in my home. How boring that would be not to have something to strive for?

So, here's a few of mine that I've only seen illustrated in the magazines of the time. I would really love to run across these pieces... some day.

Units of three and tripods were a design element seen over and over in the modern movement. Here's a perfect compliment to go with your butterfly chair: the tripodal sling stool.

For me, I have always, always been really crazy for the mid century wrought iron stuff... and if it happens to be accented with perforated metal, all the better! Just look at those lines. My parent's old wrought iron TV stand and my butterfly chair were some of my first pieces of real furniture to be claimed as my own, and I've never gotten over my obsession with the design.

This tractor-seat stool has been high on my list too. I don't know the manufacturer, but it's got all the classic designing of the big names. It's basic, with a hint of the futuristic.

What do you like? What's that special item you always have your eye open for? I'm not talking about the obvious items, such naturals as a womb chair for example. It doesn't have to be a rare object or even particularly valuable. What is it that you hunt for that would be an expression of your personal taste? What is it that would would make your home ideal become a reality?

I've always been of the thought, that a modest mid-century home should be decorated as such.

The mid-century home, mostly built for returning WWll soldiers and their new families, didn't have a lot of money, so the interior should reflect just that.

So I'm not hung up on getting 100% Heywood Wakefield, all Majestic lamps or Womb chairs either because that's not what most mid-century homeowners could afford, but I do think one should strive to make each room look comfy and cohesive.

Not all that being said...

I love those iron legs, both atomic particle ;) and hairpin.

Atomic geometric design. Boomerangs.

Now what was the question again? lol..

Atomic. I still love the whole atomic design concept best of all. Maybe it was that molecule motion wall clock I used to stare at in the candy store as a kid. Maybe it was the Ride Through Inner Space at Disneyland. But whatever, I adore atomic!

Oh and if I have an unlimited budget, I'd have a huge atomic molecule sculpture welded together out of black iron hoops and big colorful balls to put in the center of my living room. =D

*Perk* The sculpture idea... That would be SO you! Now I'm dreaming what that set up would look like, like you had me imagining what the dream-come-true Space Room would be like... I should really try to sketch it out on paper some time.

Rooms, like artworks, always seem better in the mind, don't they?

If only we could capture on paper or canvas what out minds can imagine, and if only I can get a single room done before I croak, I can actually show it off lol...

This may be a little too obvious but I strive for a tulip table and chair set - I'd never want for another piece of furniture again.

For something less obvious - I'm currently after a set of ceramic flying ducks for my wall - I just missed out on a very sweet set at a very good price today so I probably won't rest now until I get some. I think I'm so determined because it's the first retro thing my husband has been keen on getting (I'm trying to nudge him onto the vintage path).

*is really jealous for some of that "water" Ranch House must be drinking today* :D

Oh MoonDoggie! One of the better shops here had the tulip dining table last year! I sure hope you'll be able to find one of your own in good condition some day. And good luck in turning the hubby on to the right path!

Har!

It's the shackles my boss has around my wrists, to keep me chained to this computer day and night. Oh how I envy those kids in China who only work 16 hours a day ar-ar...

I am also a fan of mid-century iron furniture.

Just last weekend I went to an estate sale and they had a butterfly chair for sale, and it also had the footrest with it. The price for both was really high, so I left a bid on the set, but never heard back.

I'm sure they were asking as much as the could for the set. I found my butterfly chair in the 80's, and it wasn't cheap even in those days.

My parents gave away our original pair of chairs when I was little... nobody thought anything of it back then.

Like the Miller fiberglass chairs we used to tear up as kids. No one thought anything of them either.
