Gio Ponti Poalo de Poli Cat, a Bar and Zanuso too!

Rain, rain, go away...

While shivering away in the very damp central States, waiting to resume the never-ending task of painting the home, I've been once again browsing through eBay for wonderful MCM treasures yet to discover. You probably know how dangerous that can always be. There are a few things that caught my eye, all hopelessly beyond my wildest dreams of aquisition...

Swanky Television Viewing for Today

Still on the prowl over the web today and made another hit that needs to be shared with all you MCM-conscious readers out there. It's Wilkerson Furniture located in Lake View Terrace, California, a contemporary maker of of fine furniture with a Danish Modern flavor. I especially like the M21 entertainment console designed to house today's flat screen TVs (and apparently hide all those accessories to boot). Its all encased by a vintage-styled hard wood cabinet, your choice of walnut or cherry. The site looks fairly new, so if you're interested in any of the products, you need to give them a ring. They ask for 12 weeks lead time and offer custom sizing.

The Atomic Powered Bedroom Dresser

this is my dream desk, originally uploaded by presidentadow.

Judging from the high voltage power cord, this thing runs on more than a couple of penlight batteries *smirk*

"Shooby Dooby Wah-Waaaaa"

The home tour takes a break today so that I can take a moment to fulfill a request and share an update.

And thank goodness! ...because that perky tour guide was really starting to get on my last nerve :P

First, we have a listener request for this little number (I feel so like a DJ now!). It's an oldie but a goodie called "Dutch Door, Amour" by Miki and the Atomics (I didn't say I was a good DJ) and we'd like to send this one out to Michael at the Fab Cul-de-sac Shack.... take it away!

And I remember when Dad installed this Dutch Door too! So that'd make it 70's sometime? These doors were popular for a long time, through out the mid-century. At some later point Dad had bolted the two halves together permanently. Originally there was a latch mounted above the doorknob for locking the top section to the bottom.

Next up on the turntable is the unforgettable tune "Put a Hot Red Sling Chair Cover Over My Broken Heart." Oh, the memories that brings back...

I found this red w/ white trim cover along with a collapsable 60's frame for less than the cost of ordering a new cover alone. What a deal! My 50's butterfly chair looks happy again in it's new threads. And the collapsable frame means we can go camping in style on our next trip. I'd be jealous if I were you!

That's all folks! Thanks for tuning in today, and be sure to come back tomorrow for more of your classic favorites. This is your friendly Space Commander signing ooo-off . . .

The Torture Continues

PAIR Danish modern nightstand tables Eames Mid century
Ohhhh, I really, really like this set. They fit the ticket. Enough that I seriously had considered going for this one myself. The walnut would match up perfectly in the bedroom. They're Danish so they would fit with the dresser. And I love the long cigar legs on these (I'm using a little table and a storage box for nightstands right now - ha!)

BUT the tops of both nightstands are badly stained with rings, rough spots and what looks like cigarette burns, i.m.h.o. (and I'm not swallowing the line that these only need a little TLC to bring them back to perfection).

Otherwise.... they do look good though...

Taking deep breathes as I watch another one slip away... It's alright, I think It'll be okay...

Meet the New End Table

Thank You, oh Diva of 1950's Atomic Ranch House for putting the spotlight on this humble blog with your most esteemed, magnificent and hip-happening site! (Isn't it nice to have friends in high places?) :)

Ahem, I didn't miss this following remark either:

"And if I am not mistaken, his whole house is decorated mid-century! If so, we want a tour!!"
Well ummm, that sounds like a challenge! Am I ready to present the man-cave for public viewing? Errr, not really... but I guess it's put-up or shut-up time, huh? Okay then... let it be known that I hereby declare there will be a tour of the pad forthcoming in the hopefully not too distant future (now where did I put that Electrolux???).

But in the meantime, here's my little kidney-shape table picked up off of Craigslist a few days ago. Nothing fancy, but look at those slim stilletto legs - not too shabby for $15.

Meet the New Dresser

Its been a beautiful day, the sun was shining finally, the birds were singing AND staying away from my car, and after several days of scanning old family photos I was itchy to get out so I hit the roads.

Today's thrift shopping paid off! Now here's a nice find from the local Salvation Army. Its a Danish Modern dresser by Johnson Carper Furniture Company of Roanoke, Virginia, a manufacturer in the 50's and 60's. It's all walnut veneer with a formica top. The slim dresser mirror can be adjusted to fit on the left, right or centered. And look at those sweet thin legs raising the whole thing so that it floats off the floor. Yes, I was smitten! And to tempt me still further there's only two little corner dings, no scuffs, scratches or anything else - it's almost like new! It now resides in the future Master Bedroom (currently my Craigslist storage room).

The wood Danish Modern ducks arrive in the mail too... only together they cover so much wall space that I may have to rethink where I was planning to hang them. No problemo! As long as my grand scheme of home retrovation continues to make progress, I'm a happy camper.

1950s Danish Modern Teak Magazine & Drinks Table

This is a unique piece that was not ever offered to the American market, and was brought over by a previous owner from Europe. Its all about Danish Modern, sleek and undeniably defying gravity. Like I've always said, I have a weakness for MCM wrought iron. This one definitely gets a thumbs up from me.

Fab Fleamarket Finds for $15

Cinco de Mayo? Already??

Well, well, well... it certainly was a busy April bringing warmer weather upon us, and I've been working very hard to do my part to boost an ailing economy :)

This foot stool is puuuurrfect for my pad. I've always had a weakness for mid-century wrought iron. It's airy, light and seems to float above the floor. It also has a handy magazine rack underneath in case I'm feeling too lazy to walk two feet to put my reading material where it belongs. And this was a steal at $15... woohooo!

Harkerware Set

Harkerware produced several pastel-colored versions of this set in the 60's. I really like the flecked pattern to the glaze of these. The seller had combined equal parts of the Shell Pink and the Blue Mist sets... making for an extremely atomic-looking combo! I walked away with the whole thing for just $15. Go me! Go me!

Spiral Cone Legs - Indoor or Outdoor use - Original design handmade direct from artisan.

These legs are made of 1/4" steel round bar, formed and welded into a spiral cone ending at a 1-1/2" diameter solid steel ball.
They are very sturdy and can support a heavy table, with you dancing atop all the while.

The angled and straight legs of the same height, can be utilized within the same table, as in my Concrete computer table, pictured, which has two angled and one straight leg. The legs are sand blasted and powder coated for a long lasting durable finish.

50's Blonde Cabinet on eBay

This is one I probably will regret not going for. I just don't know where I'd put it!

Nice angled styling, with great leg structure on both sides. Two glass sliding doors with glass shelf on interior. Channeled groove on bottom shelf. Possibly was originally a china cabinet top for a buffet, but works very well independently as a small bookshelf or cabinet.50's Blonde Cabinet

This item is being auctioned by the Modern Line.

Pearsall/Craft Assoc. Sofa on eBay

Still on my never-ending quest, forever searching for the crowning jewel of any respectible man's retro-lounge-hep-cat-bach-pad. And I found this. Just a tad outside my budget, but I can still enjoy looking at those lines on the arms and back rest, and those narrow long legs make it all float on air.
